From 1 January 2027, every Queensland home must have interconnected photoelectric smoke alarms in each bedroom, in hallways that connect bedrooms to the rest of the house, and on every storey. Owner-occupiers have until that date to upgrade.
Each alarm must meet Australian Standard 3786-2014, be photoelectric with no ionisation sensor, be hardwired or run on a non-removable 10-year battery, work when tested, and be interconnected with every other smoke alarm in the home.
Since 1 January 2022, smoke alarms in Queensland rental properties must be interconnected and installed in every bedroom as well as other key areas of the property. We upgrade rentals and owner-occupied homes.
On each storey: in every bedroom, in hallways that connect bedrooms to the rest of the home, between the bedrooms and the rest of the storey if there is no hallway, and on the likely exit path on a storey without bedrooms. They must also sit clear of corners, light fittings, air con vents and ceiling fans.
